Tandoori Hummus

If you love hummus and Indian flavors, you will love this tandoori hummus recipe. It’s a creamy and delicious dip that’s seasoned with garam masala, a fragrant spice blend that gives it a warm and exotic taste. You can make this hummus in minutes with a food processor and a few simple ingredients.

To make this tandoori hummus, you will need:

  • Lemon juice
  • Garlic cloves
  • Salt
  • Tahini paste (make sure it’s fresh and not bitter)
  • Water
  • Olive oil
  • Chickpeas (canned or cooked)
  • Pepper
  • Cumin
  • Garam masala spice (start with a small amount and adjust to your liking)
  • Optional: plain yogurt (for extra creaminess)

You can also make an optional tempering oil to drizzle over the hummus for more flavor and crunch. For this, you will need:

  • Olive oil
  • Fennel seeds
  • Cumin seeds
  • Black mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves (optional)

To garnish the hummus, you can use:

  • Cilantro leaves
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

To make the hummus, start by blending the lemon juice, garlic and salt in a food processor until smooth. Then add the tahini paste and water and blend again until creamy. Next, add the olive oil slowly while the processor is running to emulsify it. Then add the chickpeas and blend until very smooth, adding more water if needed to thin it out. Finally, add the pepper, cumin and garam masala spice and blend well. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. If you like, you can also stir in some yogurt at the end for extra creaminess.

To make the tempering oil, heat some olive oil in a small skillet over medium-high heat. Add the fennel seeds, cumin seeds, black mustard seeds and curry leaves (if using) and fry for a few minutes until they start to pop and sizzle. Be careful not to burn them.

To serve the hummus, transfer it to a shallow bowl or platter and make a well in the center with a spoon. Drizzle some of the tempering oil over the hummus and sprinkle with cilantro leaves and pumpkin seeds. You can also drizzle some more olive oil and salt if you like.
