If you are looking for a simple and delicious way to enjoy Bok Choy, try grilling it and drizzling it with a homemade Ponzu Sauce. This recipe is easy to make and can be a great side dish for any grilled meal. Ponzu Sauce is a Japanese condiment that has a tangy, savory, and slightly sweet flavor. It pairs well with Bok Choy, which is a type of Chinese cabbage that has crunchy stems and tender leaves. You can use regular Bok Choy or baby Bok Choy for this recipe, depending on your preference.
Ingredients
- Bok Choy
- Avocado oil, or any oil of your choice
- Salt
- Soy sauce, or GF liquid aminos
- Fresh orange juice (or yuzu juice if you have it)
- Mirin (or use 2 teaspoons of honey and 1 tablespoon of water)
- Rice wine vinegar
- Sesame oil
- Toasted sesame seeds
- Chili flakes (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, orange juice, mirin, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and chili flakes if using. This is your Ponzu Sauce. Set aside.
- Prepare the Bok Choy by removing the outer leaves and cutting the core into halves or quarters, depending on the size. Rinse well and pat dry the stems. Leave some moisture on the leaves to prevent them from burning on the grill.
- Brush the Bok Choy with avocado oil and sprinkle with salt if desired.
- Preheat the grill to high heat and let it heat up for about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Grill the Bok Choy on both sides for 3 to 4 minutes, until charred and wilted.
- Transfer to a platter and drizzle with Ponzu Sauce. Enjoy!
Tips and Variations
- You can also roast the Bok Choy in the oven at 425°F for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- You can add some minced garlic or ginger to the Ponzu Sauce for more flavor.
- You can substitute lemon or lime juice for orange juice in the Ponzu Sauce if you prefer a more sour taste.
- You can serve the Grilled Bok Choy with any grilled protein, such as chicken, fish, tofu, or tempeh.
- You can also serve the Grilled Bok Choy with some cooked rice, noodles, or quinoa for a complete meal.
