Healthy Delicious Bison Burgers

Healthy Delicious Bison Burgers

Bison burgers are a delicious way to enjoy a burger with less fat and more flavor than regular beef burgers. Bison meat has a mild and slightly sweet taste that goes well with simple seasonings and toppings. In this recipe, you’ll learn how to make bison burgers that are tender, moist, and satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds of ground bison
  • 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, mayo, mustard, ketchup, etc.

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, gently mix the ground bison, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Don’t overwork the meat or it will become tough.
  2. Shape the mixture into four equal-sized patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from bulging when cooked.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and lightly grease it with oil or butter. Cook the patties for about 4 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness. The USDA recommends an internal temperature of 160°F for ground bison.
  4. If you want cheese on your burgers, add it during the last minute of cooking and cover the skillet with a lid to melt it.
  5. Serve the burgers on the toasted buns with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Tips and Variations

  • You can also grill the bison burgers over medium-high heat for about the same time as in the skillet.
  • You can use dried parsley instead of fresh, but reduce the amount to 1 tablespoon.
  • You can add other seasonings to the burger mixture, such as garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, or paprika.
  • You can use other types of cheese for your burgers, such as Swiss, cheddar, or blue cheese.
  • You can make your own burger sauce by mixing mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, and a dash of vinegar.
